Does Learning To Detox Your Body Enhance Your Natural Defenses
Looking after mine and my familys health has always been very important to me. I very rarely got ill, and colds and viruses never seem to latch on to me – or at least not that lasted longer than about 12 hours. So when I completely lost all my energy and was feeling run down all the time it was quite a shock to my system, and getting out of bed in the morning was becoming quite a chore. I’d visited the doctor several times and had quite a few blood tests, but they all came back negatve.
A friend of mine, who also happened to be a physiotherapist, recommended I should look into doing a detox, and take some time to learn how to detox with a view to changing my eating habits. It seemed a lot of people had a lot of good things to say about it, so took it upon myself to learn as much about the process as possible, and get to grips with what is really involved and why the natural health industry recommend regular detox dieting and recommend starting with the 7 day detox diet so avidly.
She also hinted to me to try a relaxing foot detox. I now use a foot spa about twice a week, if you don’t want to invest in a foot spa, the foot detox can work just as well – but with the patches you don’t get a relaxing foot massage at the same time
Here’s some healthy detox diet tips I discovered.
Make sure you drink plenty of water
One of the most important things you need to is drink lots of water while you are following a detox diet because it will help purge excessive toxins from your body. There’s lots of other health reasons to drink water as it helps prevent constipation, reduce bloating, and improves your complexion. On a normal day try to drink about 2 liters of water, although you will need more in hot weather or on days when you are exercising.
As a rule of thumb, for every hour that your exercise each day, drink an extra 2 glasses of water. The best water to drink is home filtered tap water, or boiled water which has cooled, or bottled water. Keep your water at room temperature as it’s more refreshing that way. Herbal teas are a great alternative in helping your reach your daily quote – loose leaf is better than tea bags as it hasn’t been processed as much. Dandelion root, yarrow, roibosch and green tea in particular are great choices as their hidden ingredients naturally support the detox process. Roibosch (Redbush) tea has other health benefits too as it is rich in antioxidants.
Should You Go Organic
When you’re following a detox diet you don’t need to buy everything organic, as organic produce is normally higher priced than non organic equivalents, but a little organic produce will go a long way to getting you started.
If you can’t find or afford organic fruits and veggies, it’s not a problem. Just eating plenty of fresh fruits and veg is more important – even if they are non-organic – than skimp on quantities. However, there are some good reasons for going organic on a healthy detox diet.
Organic foods are free from artificial pesticides and sprays, which means they are very low or even free from toxins like man made chemicals and toxins. Although it’s a controversial area, there is evidence that the build up of these pesticides overtime may cause health problems in the future.
Organic foods are subject to a lot less processing. The big benefits of this are that they have no genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and free from artificial preservatives. The taste and flavor of organic food is usually much better as well.
